Deepsea Challenge

02/04/2012

Blanson congratulates James Cameron, Ron Allum and the entire DEEPSEA CHALLENGE team on the successful and historic expedition to the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench: a depth on arrival of 35,756 feet (10,898 meters).

Blanson manufactured the cone-shaped acrylic viewport fitted into the pilot sphere hatch, through which Cameron was able to film the ocean floor.

Acrylic is a standard material for submarine viewports but this was no standard dive. During pressure testing, the viewports were subjected to several pressurisations to 20,000 psi (1360 atm) and survived.

We await eagerly the unveiling of the footage taken at ocean floor.
